August 3. 2011
– The 11th Annual “Be a HERO” Golf Tournament hosted by Medilink and sponsored by Wawa was held on Wednesday May 18, 2011 at Sand Barrens Golf Club in Swainton, NJ.  This year’s tournament, which included 140 golfers, multiple loyal sponsors, and many new sponsors raised close to $27,000 for the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers®.

Funds raised will be used to continue the HERO Campaign’s programs that promote the use of safe and sober designated drivers. “I would like to thank all our sponsors and players today, who are helping us to save lives and prevent drunk driving tragedies” said Bill Elliott, chairman and founder of the HERO Campaign during the event.

A passing morning rainstorm did not prevent our golfers or volunteers from having a terrific day of golf. By the 1pm shotgun start, the skies cleared and the tournament began.

The day’s events included lunch compliments of Applebees®, a planned Putting Contest by Millennium Radio, and the famous and competitive “Tin Cup” Challenge. Congratulations to Jeff Peltier, the 2011 “Tin Cup” Challenge Winner. Golfers were also entertained by the extremely talented magician Lance Laska; and guitarist Marc Wasserman.

The HERO Campaign and Golf Committee members are very appreciative of all of the loyal and new golfers, sponsors and volunteers who have made this event grow over the past 11 years. To view a list of our sponsors and donors, please click here…

The HERO Campaign named for Ensign John R. Elliott who was killed by a drunken driver shortly after graduating from the Naval Academy has grown to become a national movement dedicated to ending drunken driving by promoting the use of safe and sober designated drivers. The annual “Be a HERO” Golf Tournament and our upcoming “HERO Walk” on October 23, 2011 helps the Campaign to attain its mission.
